The company I work for has 2 open systems engineer positions. While not necessarily security positions, there are opportunities to become a security engineer.
Location: Kansas City Reports to: Director of Operations
Position Summary: This is a consulting and implementing position requiring project oriented experience, excellent written and communications skills as well as a technical background in networking fundamentals. This position provides the opportunity to participate in multiple areas of the consulting role such as implementation, troubleshooting, and upgrading as well as client relations management.

Essential Functions • Complete Post-Sales activity with AOS Account Teams within the Kansas City Region ** • Complete client solution implementations • Complete troubleshooting of client infrastructure • Participate in events and Forums
** this includes Wichita, KS and Springfield, MO offices
Other Responsibilities • Complete vendor management • Complete Training as requested • Provide ongoing feedback for process improvement within AOS
Education, Experience, and Skills Required • Relevant knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. Education: • Possession of Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline • or • Equivalent training with specific coursework in networking and security fundamentals, routing, switching and firewall security desirable. • Experience: • One to Three and more years of consulting employment with network ntegrator with significant responsibilities for network project architecture and design, implementations, support and troubleshooting. • To include three to five years experience with advanced network routing and switching • With at least three years of consultative experience in identifying appropriate networking related technology solutions for customer implementation.
Skills: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Extensive experience with network protocols and design, routing and switching • Working knowledge of routing protocols and networking fundamentals • Experience and/or certification with a broad range of network products such as : switches, routers, management systems and other related technologies. • Experience with business and functional requirements collection • Extensive analytical and troubleshoot skills • Ability to participate in a group oriented environment • Ability to complete assigned tasks or projects with limited supervision • Ability to lead for medium and large multi-person projects • Ability to be subject matter expert for several security technologies • Ability to work under stress and accomplish objectives • Ability to maintain knowledge level on several technology solutions • Ability to communicate effectively with partners and vendors • Ability to train
Desirable Qualifications In addition must hold at least the following certifications • Cisco Certified Network Associate certification (CCNA) with preference given to applicants who also hold • Cisco Certified Network Professional Certification (CCNP) or • Equivalent advanced product certification
This and other certifications are for software revision / hardware based solution which may require re-certification upon changes in either software / hardware.
Special Requirements • Ability to complete a minimum of two certifications or re-certifications per year • 15- 25% travel required as a minimum • Some use of personal vehicle • Some evening and weekend hour work required
